Stevenage Arts Society

             Stevenage ARts Society

Stevenage Arts Society

The Stevenage Arts Society is made up of both artists and potters and, since 1972, it has been based at Springfield House Community Centre, Old Town, Stevenage.  There are weekly sessions for painting and drawing  plus pottery workshops. Members are able to fire their pottery using the society's kiln.  We hold exhibitions of members work twice during the year.

We welcome new artists and potters including those with little or no experience.  Although we cannot offer formal classes or training to beginners, we are very happy to give advice and help to get you going.

Society History

The society was created in 1968 at the behest of the New Town Development Corporation and was originally called the Artists' Co-operative when conceived by a group of Stevenage painters.

The aim of the Corporation and these painters was of "Fostering the Arts in Stevenage".

The society remains a totally amateur, non-political and democratic organization run by an annually elected executive committee.

To ensure its financial protection the society has formed a non-profit company limited by guarantee, hence Stevenage Arts Society Ltd.
