Stevenage Arts Society

       The Pottery

The Arts Society has a Pottery housed in the lovely back garden of Springfield House. The Pottery has one large table and chairs, with space for 6 people to work around it.  We have an electric wheel, and a new top loading electric kiln which is dedicated to firing pottery. There is also a kiln which is used for firing Glass.  The kilns are housed in our kiln room.

The Pottery is in regular use during the week when groups of members get together for informal pottery sessions.  Clay, glazes and tools are provided and members pay a materials charge which is based on the weight of the finished item.  We do not teach pottery skills at these sessions, but members do offer help and support to each other.  These sessions are not really suitable for completely inexperienced beginners.  We suggest that you come along to one of our pottery workshops if you are a complete beginner.

Please see our Home Page for details of our Pottery Workshops which are intended to introduce pottery skills to both Members and non-Members.

Email: info@[email protected]  to check if any spaces are available .

Current Pottery groups are held on the following days:
Monday            10-12.30 and 7-9.30pm
Wednesday      9.30-12 noon and 1-3.30pm
Friday               9.30-12 noon and 1-3.30pm

Please contact us through the above email address if you are interested in joining a session and becoming a Member of the Arts Society. You can attend up to 2 trial sessions, paying only £5 each time before deciding if you want to join the Society and continue with your pottery hobby.  Places in the sessions are reserved by regular attendees, so you may need to be placed on a waiting list, and advised when a space becomes available.

If you would like to become a full member of the Society the cost is £30 per year,  April to March.  In addition, potters pay a £5 session fee when they attend and there is a £10 monthly kiln fee, paid by standing order, which goes towards kiln maintenance and the cost of electricity used to fire the kilns.
