The Art Society has a Pottery Workshop housed in one of the out buildings in the back garden of Springfield House, which is for use by Members of the Society. This workshop has one large table and chairs, with space for about 5 - 6 people to work around it. The workshop also has one electric wheel, and a small circular top loading electric kiln which is dedicated to firing pottery. There is a second similar kiln which is used for firing Glass. The electric kilns are housed in an adjacent room where pots are also stored, awaiting firing.
The workshop is in regular use during the week when groups of members get together for informal pottery making sessions. Clay, glazes and tools are provided and members pay a materials charge which is based on the weight of the finished item. We do not teach pottery skills at the moment, but members do offer help and support to each other. These sessions are therefore not really suitable for completely inexperienced beginners.
Members of the Society can join one of these groups for an additional fee of £2 per session, on a regular weekly basis. Email: info@stevenageartsociety@gmail.com to check if any spaces are available .
Current Pottery workshop groups are held on the following days:
Mondays 12.30 - 2.30 p.m.
Tuesdays 10 – 12 a.m. and 12.30 - 2.30 p.m.
Wednesdays 10 – 12 a.m.
Thursdays 10 – 12a.m.
Please contact us through the above email address if you are interested in joining a session and becoming a Member of the Arts Society. You can attend up to 4 trial sessions, paying only £2 each time before deciding if you want to join the Society and continue with your pottery hobby.
Places in the sessions are reserved by regular attendees, so you may need to be placed on a waiting list, and advised when a space becomes available.
If you would like to become a full member of the Society the cost is £30 per year, April to March. In addition, potters pay a £2 session fee when they attend and there is a £10 monthly kiln fee which goes towards kiln maintenance and electricity.
