The Art Society has a Pottery Workshop housed in one of the out buildings in the back garden of Springfield House, which is for use by Members of the Society only. This workshop has one large table and chairs, with space for about 5 – 6 people maximum, to work around it. The workshop also has one electric wheel, and a small circular top loading electric kiln. The electric kiln is housed in an adjacent room where pots are also stored awaiting firing.
The workshop is in regular use during the week when groups of members get together for informal pottery making sessions. Clay is provided, but an extra cost is charged, for the amount used by each member. Each item is weighed and paid for by members. Basic tools and glazes and colouring stains, are also provided. These sessions are not taught sessions, but members do offer help, and support to each other. These sessions are therefore not really suitable for complete inexperienced beginners.
Any paid up member of the Society can join one of these groups for an additional fee of £2 per session, on regular weekly basis. Classes for beginners are planned for later in 2020, but will be limited to a maximum of five students. These will be charged at a different rate, along the lines of £12 - £15 per person, (depending on the group size), for a 2 hour session. The sessions will be taught by a qualified pottery tutor and will include a contribution to the Art Society, for use of the workshop. If you are interested in taught sessions, please contact Marlene Tanti. Email: marlenetanti.ceramics@gmail.com
Current Pottery workshop groups, for people with some previous experience are held on the following days:
Mondays 1- 3 p.m.
Tuesdays 10 – 12a.m. and 1- 3 p.m.
Wednesdays 10 – 12 a.m.
Thursdays 10 – 12a.m.
Fridays 1 – 3 p.m.
Please contact Marlene Tanti by email as above, if you are interested in joining a session, and becoming a member of the Arts Society. Space is limited in this small pottery workshop, as it can only accommodate a maximum of 5 – 6 people at a time, so please contact Marlene to arrange a suitable time to attend a session. Places in the sessions are reserved by regular attendees, so you may need to be placed on a waiting list, and advised on spaces available.
Perspective members, who would like to 'try-before-you-buy', can attend up to 4 workshops on payment of the £2 charge each time. Any workshop can be attended on this basis so you can try up to 4 different workshops before you decide if you would like to become a full member of the Society (£30 p.a). Please email us to arrange a visit.
